Greyspire Update Part 2
Grid Exploration
- Floors are no longer a single climbing path. Every floor is now a grid of connected rooms that you explore one move at a time.
- You only see the room you are standing in. The rest of the floor reveals itself as you walk through it.
- A map at the bottom of the screen tracks everything you have uncovered, drawing the corridors between rooms and showing where your party members are.
- Each room on the map carries the icon of what lives inside it, so a floor you have explored reads at a glance.
Steps
- Moving between rooms costs one step. You carry five.
- Steps are restored to five when you complete all of your tasks for the day, and the completion screen now tells you when that happens.
- Running out of steps ends your exploration for the day. The floor waits exactly where you left it.
Floor Keys
- The stairs of every floor are locked. You need that floor's key to climb.
- Keys are no longer found in a single place. A floor may hide its key in a key room, inside a chest, behind a cleared dungeon, or in the hands of a boss.
- Every fifth floor keeps its key with the raid boss. There is no way around it.
- Finding a key announces itself, wherever it came from.
Rooms
- Red rooms. Rooms holding a torch, a dungeon or a raid seal themselves behind you. The whole screen turns red and you cannot leave until the room is resolved.
- An Escape Stone now breaks that seal, turning a red room back into an ordinary one.
- Ceramic pots. Empty rooms hold up to three pots. Break them for coins, tower coins, and the occasional consumable, trinket or piece of common gear.
- Fishing rooms got their own flooded chamber to fish from.
- Stairs rooms now show the ladder out of the floor, and tell you plainly when something is still holding it shut.
- Echoes left by other climbers now appear inside the room with you.
The Guardian's Gate
- On biome boss floors, the key and the stairs are no longer enough. The guardian has to fall before the floor lets you through.
- Walking around the guardian's room is no longer a way to skip it.
Death
- Dying in the Greyspire now returns you to the starting room of the floor you wake up on.
- Falling to a biome guardian now counts as a Greyspire death like any other. It previously did not.
Look and Feel
- The Greyspire got a new backdrop, and the tower now bleeds its color into the whole screen while you are sealed inside a red room.
- Entering a room, climbing a floor and arriving on a new one were rebuilt as full screen sequences.
- New sounds for breaking pots, collecting drops, finding keys and entering a sealed room.
